Change my world by changing my colour #SpeakColour

For the past couple of months I’ve been toying with the idea to give my room a fresh coat of paint. I’ve even pinned a whole bunch of ideas and collected some paint swatches.  If you’ve been keeping up with me you will know that I moved a couple of times and when I moved back to Wilderness I came to stay with my brother but I got the room with the ugly paint! When I got the opportunity to work with Builders on the #SpeakColour campaign I knew the time for change is now.

Why do I need a change?

Besides the colour being horrible, it’s also very dark and makes the small room look even smaller! I’ve gradually been making changes to open the room up a bit. I’ve replaced the blue curtains with white. This immediately let more light in giving the illusion that the room is bigger. Besides changing the wall colour I’d also love to re-paint my bookshelf, light fitting and construct a DIY headboard. I feel that this change and DIYing it will be a good distraction from the big D going on as well.

Here are some roomspiration that I’ve pinned. Over the next week I’ll be adding more ideas to my board, you are more than welcome to follow!

    What am I going for?

The look I’m going for as you can see is a soft colour profile. Light blues, grey blues and perhaps a touch of light pink, green or purple. When I started planning my room makeover I also realized that I haven’t gotten a new duvet cover since I got married. I invested in two new sets on sale that will fit right into the colours I’m gravitating towards.

I think a matte finish PVA paint for the walls will work great and chalk paint for the shelves and light fitting. The light fitting was made by my grandfather many moons ago so it’s a pretty special piece in my room.

    Painting Fears

Currently I’m a bit wary of painting a light colour over the dark green. The green will most probably pop through if I don’t use enough coats or neglect using a base coat. The other thing is, it’s dry walling, so it will be a bit of a mission removing the shelves for the actual painting process. I will be discussing these with my pain specialist when I visit Builders.

If you have any paint tips and inspiration don’t hesitate to drop me a comment or let’s chat on instagram or facebook!
