{Let’s Talk About} Unwanted Facial Hair

Hi there my lovelies. Today I’m touching down on a very sensitive subject about myself. Let’s talk about unwanted facial hair. But before we delve deep into one of the things that bothers me the most about my body. (Yes even more than my fat rolls and short stumpy legs) I want to share with you why my body is doing things to me that I don’t like.

What is PCOS? Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is where a woman’s hormones are out of whack (more testosterone than the female body needs, or what it wants) This usually causes fertility problems. The symptoms include weight gain, especially around the stomach area, unwanted body hair (yes on the face, stomach and even sometimes boobs) and male patterned baldness to name a few. I think the only plus point about it is that you aren’t prone to cellulite but I would trade the facial hair for cellulite any day.

My body is also insulin resistant, so it acts like I’m diabetic and losing weight is a huge struggle. 1 in 10 Women has PCOS so chances are you probably know someone who has it.

Unwanted Facial Hair

So this is the part that is really hard for me to say out loud. I have hair on my chin and I hate it. I hate it being there and it makes me feel like less of a woman. What woman want’s to wake up in the morning having to shave like a man? And yes, I’ve tried it all. Waxing, hair removal creams, tweezing, shaving and yes, out of desperation I even once tried the epilator!

Laser Hair Removal

Getting laser hair removal done has always been on my wishlist. Throughout the years I’ve done so much re-search and came to the conclusion that it doesn’t work on light hair. My facial hair is 50/50 blond and dark so I let the idea slide because I thought I will just be wasting (half) my money.

Que Glo Laser & Beauty Clinic

I think one of the best things to happen to me this year is the email I received from Glo Laser & Beauty Clinic asking if I’d like to come in for a free consultation and test patch for laser hair removal. I emailed them back explaining why I would love to as well as questions about how effective it would be considering I have light facial hair. They came back to me offering me 2 sessions and I went ahead and booked an appointment for the consultation.

Bernadette was so informative and I had the best chat with her about my insecurities regarding my facial hair. During the consultation I also raised my concerns about my light hair. So here is a myth busted. As long as the root of the hair contains colour pigment they can be successfully shot from your face with a laser beam.

I will be going for my sessions starting 24 September and I will be going once a month as I can afford it but I will keep you guys updated and my next post will have more information about the machine and process.

Another Myth Busted

Go ahead and shave your facial hair. They will not get thicker! They only appear so because you are keeping them in the first grow phase. Also by shaving them you give them a blunt point and therefore they feel “hard”. Look at freshly cut grass. It’s the same thing.

So if it will make you feel better applying makeup to a smoothly shaved face, just go ahead and shave it off! There is no shame in doing so. If you want to rock your facial hair, you go ahead and do that too. Just be you!

I also have mild PCOS, and a mixture of that and being indian, my hair is so dark, all over my body. I started laser when I was in university, and it was one of the best investments ever! I hardly have any hair on my arms, underarms, legs and face anymore, thanks to laser. It didn’t work too well on my bikini area though. I do a bit of maintenance now and again on my face, but nothing major, and I shave parts of my face every few months if there is some hair. Shaving has such a great effect on my skin too, similiar to dermaplaning. It exfoliates and makes my skin baby soft, and makeup applies seamlessly!

I’m so happy to hear that it worked for you! What scared me is the blonde hair, mine is dark, blonde and red so will see what will happen. People always jump down your throat when you tell them you shave the hair on your face, it’s nice to hear I’m not the only one out there doing it!

I think it’s a great facial treatment too, it exfoliates and makes my skin so smooth and soft. If a dermatologist were to do it as a skincare treatment, it would be called deplaning and is really expensive. We just do the at home version.

The machine they’re using is called the Soprano Ice, I will be covering it in my next post about the process. The therapist also has a lot of blonde hair and she’s had success with removing them so will update.
