Hi lovelies, this is the second post in my self tan series and in this post I am going to discuss step by step how to self tan if you’ve never done it before. I myself used self tan for the first time after receiving the Caribbean Tan goodies (that time in high school that my cousin got a hold of me with some self tan cream and I had orange streaked legs for weeks doesn’t count!) and I would like to share my experience with you guys, where I made mistakes and what I would do different with my next application.

Caribbean Tan

I read through the instructions that come with the Caribbean tan products a couple of times before I got started. I decided on the spritzer as it seemed easiest to apply and Caribbean Tan suggest to use an instant tan product if you are a first timer. I also called in some re-reinforcements for help in the form of a husband. I decided on trying the tan on my legs first, it is winter after all and if I mess it up no one would see anyways. I went with the A skin type product, my legs are very light and rarely get to see sunshine, I personally don’t like tanning in the sun and always search for the nearest shade spot and visit the beach with SPF 50 and an umbrella so I was super excited to finally getting the chance to give my legs a bronzed glow.

Here are the steps I followed as a first timer and some notes on what I’d do different next time!

Step 1 – Decide on your Caribbean Tan product

Step 2 – Is all about prepping your skin, I exfoliated using the Caribbean Tan Cinnamon and Coconut scrub and opted to shave my legs for the fear that I would shave my tan off if I shaved in the first couple of days after application.  Next time I would shave the night before as the freshly shaved skin ended up with a little uncomfortable sting!

Step 3 – Apply your self tan product as per instruction on the package, apply moderately over knees and ankles, one place hubby and I messed up a little but is the skin in the folds of my heels, I completely forgot about those and ended up with the slightest hint of zebra stripes.

Step 4 – Let your tan develop over 8 hours, wear loose clothing and rinse off the residue that is left behind after the 8 hours passed. Don’t do anything that will cause sweating as the will influence your tan.

Step 5 – Apply a body butter regularly to keep your skin moisturised and to pro-long your tan. I used the Caribbean Tan body butter.

Step 6 – Admire your gorgeous bronzed skin minus the sun damage!

The Caribbean Tan products are super easy to use and (except for the heels, which was my own doing) I didn’t have any yellow lines or streaks, my knees didn’t look like I just went crawling through dirt, I was just left with a beautiful bronze sun kissed glow.

In the next self tan post in my series I will be reviewing the gorgeous Caribbean Tan products I received!

Ooohh I can’t wait to see the results! I don’t normally use self tanners but there’s this spray from the body shop that’s actually pretty good for temporary color!

Would love if you check out my blog! Just followed you on twitter and instagram 🙂Raincouver Beauty

I didn’t notice it going orange at all but a lot of it came off when I shaved the first time, was around 3 days after my first application. I need to re-do my entire review post tho, the dog chewed up my before and after pics in the form of a memory card 🙁
