LongBannerSplashSplurgeThis month I’m starting a brand new monthly feature where I will focus on one makeup item and show you my favourite picks, affordable – Splash and high end – Splurge, some I’ve used and some I haven’t but they are high up on my wish list.  I’m starting this off with mascaras, mascara is my absolute must have makeup item, if I don’t use mascara I actually get asked if I’m sick! Mascara Madness

Mascara Madness

Now because mascara is my weak spot my definition of an affordable mascara might not be the same as everyone’s out there but I’m going to try my best to draw that fine line. So lets start with my picks for affordable:

1. Rimmel Wonder’Full Mascara with Argan Oil
I purchased this mascara from Rimmel on a whim and I absolutely love it, it contains argan oil that that is really good for your lashes and the formula is clump free and creates beautiful fanned lashes with it’s flexi grip wand. It retails for around R130.

2. Revlon Megalash Mascara – Lengthening
This mascara from Revlon retails for around R130, I am currently using this one and I’m happy with the effect it creates on my lashes. It’s a very light weight mascara and is perfect for everyday use and for a no makeup, makeup look.

3. Hean Wild Cat Eyes Mascara
I just love how my lashes look when I wear this mascara, they are beautifully defined. The mascara doesn’t clump and doesn’t budge for anything, now with anything I mean you have to use some serious makeup remover to get it to come off. So this is a perfect mascara to use day in and day out if you wear contact lenses. Even better, if you are going to see a teary eyed movie, because who wants to look like a panda right? It retails for R130 and can be purchased exclusively from Glamore Cosmetics.

4. L’Oreal Miss Manga Mascara
The Miss Manga is one of my all time favourite go to mascaras for a dramatic eye, your lashes just come to life, they appear full, long and fanned out, giving your eyes an anime eye look.  This is the closest I’ve ever gotten to a false lash look without using false lashes. This retails for R150. There is another Miss Manga in town now too called Punky and I can’t wait to giver her a whirl!

5. Bourjois 1 Seconde Mascara
This was my very first Bourjois makeup item and had me just fall in love with the brand. The formula is great, the makeup wand is very plump and it helps create those beautiful  volumed lashes with a lot of va va voom! It retails for around R130 and comes in a waterproof variant as well.

So if you are in the market for a new mascara I highly recommend any of the ones I named above. Now getting to splurge…..

1. Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Colour Lash Enhancing Mascara
I am not 100% sure but I think this one retails for around R220. I actually own this one, I received it in my 2014 Elizabeth Arden block buster but I have not yet opened it, I’m being so stringy! But I guess I better start using it, no use of leaving the luxury for last right? I will have a review up as soon as I’ve tried and tested!

2. CK One Colour Mascara
Another mascara on my splurge list is this one from Calvin Klein, the pro’s list is a mile long but the fact that it  lengthens, defines, volumizes and curls lashes and is safe for using with contact lenses just makes me want it really bad!

3. Smashbox Hyperlash Mascara
Smashbox is relatively new in South Africa and I’ve had the privilege to try their lipgloss, lip lacquer and lip liner and I was really impressed.  This mascara from them is another all in one mascara giving you volume and length while it defines, it retails for R270.00 and is free of parabens.

4. Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara
Promising to pack one punch of a curl the Clinique high impact curling mascara promises to open your eyes up with a lot of curl without using an eyelash curler for up to 24 hours without any flaking or smudging, now that’s something I’d love to see! It retails for around R255.

5. Lacome HypnôSe Drama Mascara
This mascara from Lacome retails for around R390.00, I have not yet tried this one but as far as mascaras goes this is my personal Rolls-Royce. I’ve read amazing thing about the formula and the mascara wand.

Do you have a mascara you absolutely love or want to try out really bad? Let me know in the comment section if you share a crazy mascara love with me!

Personally the ones going over R160 is pushing it for me, but I really want to try that CK one

The best damn mascara I’ve ever used is Catrice’s ‘Better than False’ and that’s only about R80 😉 I’ve been asked countless times if I’ve got false lashes on when I wear it.

Thank you Michelle I will keep that one in mind! I’ve been cautious about using the really affordable mascaras because of my contact lenses, so scared they will fall in my eyes!

  2. Rayne Alexander

I think I may be the only person who did NOT like the Lancome mascara!! Honestly could not see a difference between the Lancome and my Rimmel :/
On the other hand I am looking forward to trying the Hean one 🙂
